Cyclist Emiliano Zara, marathon runner Nino di Francesco and powerlifter Luigi Corti have been sanctioned with four year bans, Italy’s national anti-doping agency (NADO Italia) announced. Zara’s sanction will expire on 15 October 2024, after he was provisionally suspended in October due to an AAF for clenbuterol at the 13th Trophy of Meduna di Livenza on 30 August.
Nino di Francesco’s four year sanction will expire on 9 November 2024. He was provisionally suspended in November after winning October’s Pescara Marathon, taking ten seconds off his personal best, due to an AAF for D-amphetamine. It is understood that the 41 year old has had to close down his personal website due to the controversy that followed his provisional suspension.
Luigi Corti’s four year sanction will expire on 20 November 2024. Corti was provisionally suspended after returning an AAF for a metabolite of oxymetholone at the Senior Men’s Italian Classic on 25 October.
