Sports Integrity Briefs – 11 September 2018

• Italy’s national anti-doping organisation (NADO Italia) confirmed that squash player Alexander Joe Hodgetts has been sanctioned with a four year ban. Hodgetts returned an adverse analytical finding (AAF) for metabolites of methandienone at the Italian Team Championships on 21 April. NADO Italia also announced that a minor taekwondo athlete has been sanctioned with a one year ban.

• A 47 year old man has appeared in court charged with race-fixing as part of New Zealand Police’s ‘Operation Inca’ investigation into corruption in the harness racing industry, reports the Otago Daily Times. The newspaper reported that others are due to appear in court later today. Eleven people have been charged in connection to the investigation, which used information supplied by New Zealand’s Racing Integrity Unit.

• The Japan Gymnastics Association (JGA) has temporarily suspended two senior officials accused of harassing an Olympic gymnast, it announced yesterday. Chieko (塚原千恵子) and Mitsuo Tsukahara (塚原光男) have been suspended until an independent committee finishes investigating allegations brought forward by Rio 2016 gymnast Sae Miyakawa (宮川 紗江). The independent committee examining her allegations consists of five lawyers, who were appointed earlier this month.
