Genius Sports, a global leader in sports data technology, commercialisation and integrity services, has been selected by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) to develop and provide an automated Price Monitoring System that will further enhance the BHA’s integrity analysts’ ability to identify and investigate irregular betting patterns in real time. The Price Monitoring System, delivered via Genius Sports’ proprietary Sport Integrity Monitor (SportIM) platform, will enhance the BHA’s integrity analysts’ ability to monitor live betting prices, industry averages and odds fluctuations from all major bookmakers via a simple desktop application.
The system will also assist with the processes involved in sending pricing data and alerts in real time via Genius Sports’ API to the on-course stewards in order to increase the efficiency of race day integrity monitoring. By closely monitoring the changes in betting prices, the BHA are alerted to any fluctuations at levels that are deemed unusual and historical price information will be available to assist investigations and analysis. The new software will make these processes faster, more comprehensive and more efficient than those currently in place. The deal covers the fixtures across the entire British racing calendar, totalling nearly 1,500 per year.
Robin Mounsey, spokesman for the BHA, said: “The ability to monitor all modern betting platforms and markets in real-time has been an important part of our toolkit for some time. It forms an essential piece of the complex integrity jigsaw and British Racing has led the way in its use for safeguarding betting integrity for some time. In order to ensure that the BHA remains at the forefront of integrity monitoring it is appropriate that we ensure the systems which we use are intelligent, agile and efficient. We look forward to working with Genius Sports to develop our capability in this essential area.”
Steven Burton, Director of Integrity, governance and Sports Partnerships at Genius Sports, said: ‘‘We are delighted to announce our partnership with the BHA. British horseracing is amongst the most popular in the world and this success is built upon the principles of fairness and integrity. We are looking forward to providing our specialist solutions and playing our part in ensuring that the integrity of British horseracing is upheld.’’
Through its Sport Integrity Monitor platform, Genius Sports helps governing bodies prevent and manage the integrity concerns associated with betting-related corruption and match-fixing. Clients include numerous high-profile organisations including Major League Baseball and the English Premier League.
