Whereabouts: Manchester City fined, AFC Bournemouth charged

Premier League club AFC Bournemouth has been charged with failing to update its whereabouts information, less than 24 hours after Manchester City was fined £35,000 by the Football Association for the same offence. ‘It is alleged the club failed to ensure that their ‘Club Whereabouts’ information was accurate, contrary to Regulation 14(d)’, read a 17 February statement. ‘Bournemouth have until 23 February 2017 to respond to the charge’.

Under the FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations, clubs are required to provide information including:

• training dates;
• the start and finish times of training sessions;
• the address at which training will take place;
• home addresses of players and any other address at which a player may reside overnight.

‘It shall also be a breach of this Regulation 14 by the Club if the information contained in such reports is either initially inaccurate or has not been updated by the Club as necessary to ensure it remains accurate’, reads Regulation 14(d).

Manchester City was issued with a £35,000 sanction on 16 February, after being charged with the same offence in January. ‘Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, Manchester City have been fined £35,000 and warned as to their future conduct after admitting a breach of The FA’s Rules on Anti-Doping’, read a statement, which prompted calls for more meaningful sanctions against football clubs found to have breached FA doping regulations.
