UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) welcomed The Council of Europe Anti-Doping Convention Monitoring Group evaluation team from 9 – 10 February.
The aim of the visit was for the group to examine whether the UK Government complies with its commitments under the Council of Europe Anti-Doping Convention.
The group was made up of Steven Teitler from Anti-Doping Authority Netherlands, Michal Rynkowski from the Polish Commission against Doping in Sport, Christina Friis Johansen from Anti-Doping Denmark, Anne Cappelen from Anti-Doping Norway, Sergey Khrychikov and Maryam Gafar-zada, both from Council of Europe Sport Conventions Division.
During its visit the evaluation team met representatives from the Drug Control Centre at King’s College, Department for Culture, Media and Sport, National Governing Bodies and UKAD, including Testing, Education, Investigations and Intelligence.
Steven Teitler, who was leading the group, said:
“We have learned a lot about UK Anti-Doping from our trip, having had the opportunity to speak with different stakeholders. The UK has a unique set-up with the four Home Countries feeding in. During our trip we have learnt that UKAD has a robust education and testing programme, with different levels of education ranging from youth to university level, and categorisation of sports to focus testing resources.”
Nicole Sapstead, UKAD Chief Executive said:
“It has been a great pleasure to welcome The Council of Europe Anti-Doping Convention Monitoring Group to UKAD to demonstrate the work that we do, on behalf of the UK Government. It is very important to take a united, global approach to prevent doping.
