The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has confirmed bans have been issued to Samuele Conti, Kristjan Fajt and Alberto Gallego, who were added to its list of cyclists currently serving a sanction, after they were found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV). The UCI list, reproduced below, was updated on 28 October.
It includes a ban of four years issued to Conti, who was found to have committed an ADRV after testing positive for GHRP-2 on 13 August. It is understood that the Italian cyclist, who rides for the Triestina-Wilier Southeast team, argued that his positive test for the growth hormone-releasing peptide was due to a supplement he had been taking. However, it would appear that the UCI did not accept that explanation.
Fajt was issued with a three years and nine months ban after returning an adverse analytical finding (AAF) for erythropoietin (EPO) at Croatia’s Istrian Spring Trophy in March. The Slovenian was sacked by the Adria Mobil team after news of the AAF broke in April.
Gallego was sanctioned with a three-year and nine months ban after returning an AAF for stanozolol in January. The Spaniard was sacked by the Caja Rural-Seguros team on 3 January, two days after signing with them. Gallego also claims that his AAF was due to a contaminated supplement. However, once again, it would appear that the UCI did not accept that explanation.
