Retrospective analysis of samples by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has resulted in two riders reporting positive tests for erythropoietin (EPO) from samples given in 2011 and 2012. Slovenian mountain-biker Blaza Klemencic reported an EPO positive from a sample given on 27 March 2012, and Russian road cyclist Alexey Shmidt reported an EPO positive from a 15 November 2011 sample.
Klemencic competed at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympics and won a silver medal at the 2014 MTB European Championships cross country race. Both positives were confirmed when the UCI posted an updated list of provisional suspensions on its internet site.
