The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) has charged two players with breaching betting rules, after an investigation based on suspicious betting patterns. Wessel Nijman has admitted agreeing to lose, after being charged in relation to his 4-0 loss to David Evans on 14 May. Kyle McKinstry plans to appeal charges relating to his 5-0 loss, also to Evans on 30 April, and relating to his 5-1 loss to Nijman on 2 May. There is no suggestion that Evans was involved.
‘I was put under some pressure to lose a match and I agreed to do this’, said Wessel Nijman in a statement. ‘I have admitted the offence and take full responsibility for it and will accept my punishment’.
‘As McKinstry had indicated his intention to appeal this decision, the PDPA is unable to comment further on his ongoing case at this time’, continues the statement referenced above, published by the Professional Darts Players Association (PDPA). MDA Promotions, which represents McKinstry, said it was ‘deeply disappointed’ regarding the allegations.
