Today’s sports integrity briefs…

• The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that the hearing in the arbitration procedure between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), 34 current and former players of the Australian Football League (AFL) side Essendon, the AFL and the Australian Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) will be held in Sydney, Australia. The hearing will commence on 16 November 2015 and is expected to last for between 5-7 days.

As reported by the Sports Integrity Initiative, the World Anti-Doping Agency has already appealed an AFL ruling not to sanction players accused of using a banned peptide in 2012.

• The International Olympic Committee (IOC) last week released its Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. In a press release, the IOC said that all athletes competing in Rio would be ‘subject to testing as outlined in the Anti-Doping Rules, which have been drafted in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.’

The IOC’s statement further said that ‘during this period all athletes will be subject to doping controls initiated by the IOC at any time or place, with no advance notice required to be given.’
