Three Austrian footballers banned for ordering prohibited substances online

Three footballers have been sanctioned with four year bans for ordering prohibited substances over the internet, the Austrian anti-doping commission (ÖADR) has announced. It found that Yasir Akpinar of RSV Wienerfeld, which was relegated from the Oberliga A at the end of this season, had bought testosterone and nandrolone on the internet.

It also found that Stefan Egretzberger, who plays for USV Atzebbrugg Heiligeneich in the 2. Landesliga West, bought clenbuterol via the internet. Finally, it found that Hüseyin Erdogdu, who plays for BSV Enzesfeld Hirtenberg in the 2. Klasse Triestingtal, had bought testosterone, trenbolone, tamoxifen, and clomiphene via the internet.

The ÖADR did not announce details, such as whether the footballers had bought the prohibited substances from the same internet site. Doping is considered a criminal offence in Austria, however it is understood that the three players have only been sanctioned for possession of the prohibited substances.
