The ITA asserts an apparent anti-doping rule violation against Georgian athlete Benik Abramyan
• The International Testing Agency (ITA) reports that a sample collects from Shot-Putter Benik Abramyan has returned an adverse analytical finding for dehydrochloromethyltestosterone and methandienone (S.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids) and Tamoxifen (S.4 Hormone and Metabolic Modulators).
The sample was collected by the ITA under the Testing Authority of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during an Out-of-Competition anti-doping control on 31 July 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. The result was reported by the WADA-accredited laboratory of Tokyo on 2 August 2021.
The athlete, who was meant to participate in the Men’s Athletics Shot Put on the evening of 3 August 2021 at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended until the resolution of the matter in line with the World Anti-Doping Code and the IOC Anti-Doping Rules. The athlete has the right to challenge the imposition of the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport – Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD).
The athlete also has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample. Given that the case is underway, there will be no further comments during the ongoing proceeding.
Update:
Despite having been duly invited by CAS ADD, the athlete decided not to attend the ad hoc videoconference hearing regarding the Provisional Suspension. After a review of the application filed by the ITA on behalf of the IOC, CAS ADD confirmed the provisional suspension imposed by the ITA earlier on 3 August 2021.
