• The International Testing Agency (ITA) reports that a sample collected from Mark Odhiambo, a Sprinter from Kenya, has returned an adverse analytical finding for methasterone and metabolites (S1. Anabolic Androgenic Steroids).
The sample was collected by the ITA under the Testing Authority of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during an Out-of-Competition anti-doping control on 28 July 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. The result was reported by the WADA-accredited laboratory of Tokyo on 31 July 2021.
The athlete, who was meant to participate in the Men’s 100 Meters Sprint on the evening of 31 July 2021 at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended until the resolution of the matter in line with the World Anti-Doping Code and the IOC Anti-Doping Rules. The athlete has challenged the imposition of the provisional suspension and the case has been referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sport – Anti-Doping Division.
The athlete has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample. Given that the case is underway, there will be no further comments during the ongoing proceeding.
Following an ad hoc teleconference hearing attended by the athlete and the ITA on behalf of the IOC, CAS ADD confirmed the provisional suspension imposed by the ITA earlier on 31 July 2021.
