• The ad hoc Chamber of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) provisionally suspended athlete Alex Wilson (athletics) for a potential anti-doping rule violation.

Swiss athlete Alex Wilson was provisionally suspended by Anti-doping Switzerland on 28 April 2021 for the presence of Epitrenbolone, a metabolite of the banned substance Trenbolone, in a sample taken during an athlete’s doping control. Trenbolone is an anabolic androgenic steroid from the group of anabolic steroids. The athlete appealed against this interim measure. By order of the Disciplinary Chamber for Doping Cases of Swiss Olympic (Disciplinary Chamber) of 18 May 2021, the provisional suspension was temporarily lifted. After the conclusion of the proceedings concerned, the suspension was lifted by a decision of the Disciplinary Chamber of 2 July 2021.

In the meantime, World Athletics and WADA appealed the Disciplinary Chamber’s decision, whereby Alex Wilson’s provisional suspension was lifted, and brought the case to the ad hoc CAS Chamber at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. With the CAS decision of 27 July 2021, the appeal was allowed and Alex Wilson’s provisional suspension was reinstated.

The ordinary procedure falls within the competence of the Disciplinary Chamber and is currently in progress. As a result, for reasons of personal protection, Anti-doping Switzerland is unable to provide information on the content of this ongoing procedure.
