Swiss Olympic association suspends footballer over oxilofrine & ephedrine use

The Swiss Olympic association (SOV) has suspended footballer Teuta Syla, who competes for women’s team FC Rapperswil-Jona (FCRJ), for one year after a positive test for oxilofrine and ephedrine. Syla tested positive after an in-competition test on 24 May 2014.

In a media release, the SOV said that Syla’s suspension would run from 15 January 2015 and she would have to pay the SFR320 (€310) cost of analysing the A sample; the SFR800 (€772) cost of the proceedings; and make a SFR700 (€675) indemnity payment to Anti-Doping Switzerland.

Syla, originally from Kosovo, scored 32 goals last season to help FCRJ win promotion to the Nationalliga A, Switzerland’s top division. Oxilofrine is a stimulant often featured in dietary supplements, and features on section S6.(b) of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List. Ephedrine is also a stimulant, and features in the same section of the List.
