Sports Integrity Briefs – 28 May 2019

• The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has approved applications from 30 coaches to work with Russian athletes, and two applications are pending. The list of approved coaches and the athletes that they work with has been posted by the Russian Athletics Federation (RusAF) here. The two pending applications are from Leo Lobodina (Льва Лободина), coach of junior decathlon athlete Artem Makarenko (Артем Макаренко); and Matthew Telyatnikova (Матвея Телятникова), coach to junior distance runner and Russian 3,000m junior indoor champion Lilia Mendaeva (Лилия Мендаева). In March, the IAAF granted Authorised Neutral Athlete (ANA) status to Mendaeva to allow her to compete in the European u20 Championships only, which takes place from 18-21 July in the Swedish city of Borås.

• Innsbruck prosecutors have questioned Johannes Reichelt as part of Operation Aderlass, the investigation into blood doping that centres around the customers of Dr. Mark Schmidt, reports the Kronen Zeitung. Reichelt won Gold in the Super-G at the 2015 Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) Alpine World Ski Championships in 2015.

• The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has launched the second phase of its consultation on an International Standard for Results Management. The new Standard, a draft of which is available below, aims to define the responsibilities of anti-doping organisations with regards to results management. This includes notification of potential anti-doping rule violations (ADRVs); provisional suspensions; assertion of ADRVs; the proposal of consequences for them; the hearing process; issuance and notification of decisions; as well as appeals.

• The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has dismissed appeals from the Football Associations of Hungary and Montenegro against sanctions issued following the racist behaviour displayed by some fans during matches against Slovakia and England. Hungary was ordered to partially close its national stadium for the next match it is due to host, and Montenegro must play its next home match behind closed doors. Both must display #EqualGame banners during the matches.

Anti-Doping Switzerland has filed an application for disciplinary proceedings against Bruno Tavares, after the boxer spoke publicly about a potential anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
