• Ukrainian distance runner Vitaliy Shafar (Виталий Шафар) was sanctioned with a three year and seven months ban from 31 January 2017, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of World Athletics has announced. The AIU indicated that the Ukrainian athletics federation had sanctioned Shafar based on abnormalities in his Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) indicating use of a prohibited substance or method. His ban is scheduled to end on 31 August 2020, which means he could qualify for the Marathon at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
• The International Skating Union (ISU) has adopted a revised Code of Ethics that will allow it to charge people with discrimination based on ‘sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics’. Under the previous Code of Ethics, people could only be charged with discrimination based on ‘race, colour and sex’.
• The Biathlon Integrity Unit board has appointed Greg McKenna as its new Head. McKenna replaced Sarah Fussek, who was appointed on a temporary basis from the international ski federation (FIS), from 15 July 2020.
