• The International Testing Agency (ITA) has charged a Bulgarian weightlifter with attempting to avoid a doping test. The ITA alleges that Yunder Beytula provided incorrect whereabouts information to the ITA, which it discovered when attempting to locate him for a 29 December 2020 out of competition test. It also alleges that when doping control officers located Beytula, he refused to provide a sample. ‘Mr. Beytula has thus been charged with committing violations of Article 2.3 (Evading and Refusing Sample Collection) and Article 2.5 (Tampering or Attempted Tampering with any part of Doping Control) of the IWF Anti-Doping Rules (IWF ADR)’, read a statement published on the International Weightlifting Federation’s (IWF) internet site. ‘If confirmed, this will potentially be the athlete’s second ADRV (the athlete was previously sanctioned with a period of ineligibility from 11 October 2013 until 11 October 2015 for the presence of prohibited anabolic steroids in a sample collected from him on 25 September 2013)’. Beytula won a Bronze medal in the clean and jerk (81kg category) at the 2019 World Weightlifting Championships.
• A weightlifter has been sanctioned with a ten year ban, and another has been sanctioned with a four year ban, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) announced yesterday. Yuri Selyutin (Селютина Юрия) was sanctioned with a ten year ban for participating whilst banned. It is understood that Selyutin was sanctioned with a ten year ban in 2013 for a second doping offence. His ban will now expire on 2 October 2033. Vadim Bikmukhametov (Бикмухаметова Вадима) was sanctioned with a four year ban from 19 February 2020, due to a prohibited substance being detected in his sample.
• The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reduced a life ban issued to Ankeet Chavan to seven years, reports the Times of India. Chavan was sanctioned with a life ban in 2015 due to his involvement in the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing case.
