Sports Integrity Briefs – 15 Sept. 2015

• The Bolivian football players association (FABOL) is planning a player strike for the eighth round of the Liga de Bolivia, scheduled from Thursday to Sunday, after two clubs (Wilstermann and San José de Oruro) failed to pay players. “We do not ask that the clubs make the payments immediately, but sign guarantees that they must meet within 60 days”, said FABOL executive David Paniagua in a statement. “Unfortunately, the League has said that the two members cannot do this”. Due to the issue, players from both clubs did not attend a national team camp on preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifiers, which take place from 8 October.

• When questioned by the Sports Integrity Initiative about why certain names were not included on a list of suspended athlete support personnel, a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) spokesperson clarified: “WADA compiled the list based on the information provided by Anti-Doping Organisations. It is the responsibility of the Anti-Doping Organisations to verify the accuracy of the list, including the names included and the end dates of the sanctions.”

• In an interview with The Guardian, actor Ben Foster admitted taking performance-enhancing drugs in order to get into the mindset of Lance Armstrong (pictured), who he is playing in The Program, an upcoming film. “Doping affects your mind”, he told the newspaper. “There are behaviours when you’ve got those chemicals running through your body that serve you on the bike […] I don’t know how to separate the chemical influence from the psychological attachment I had to the character. If it’s working, it keeps you up at night.”
