Sports Integrity Briefs – 14 February 2020

• The International Biathlon Union (IBU) confirmed it has charged Russian former biathlete Evgeny Ustyugov with a violation of its anti-doping rules based on abnormalities in his Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) detected from January 2010 to February 2014. Ustyugov won gold medals at the 2010 Vancouver and 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

• Greek weightlifter Georgios Markoulas has been provisionally suspended after returning an adverse analytical finding (AAF) for a metabolite of methyltestosterone, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) announced. Markoulas won Gold in the 96kg category at the European Masters Weightlifting Championships last year.

• A Paris Court has given a former football player in France’s lower divisions a one year suspended prison sentence and a five year ban from sport for match-fixing, reports AFP. Matar Fall was found to have been involved in the manipulation of Frejus-Saint-Raphael’s 4-1 loss to Colomiers in a 9 May 2014 match. Colomiers had already been relegated. A second accused player, goalkeeper Dominique Jean-Zephirin, conceded four goals in the first 21 minutes, including an own goal by Fall. His case will be heard on 29 April.
