Nicolae Onică has been provisionally suspended after returning an adverse analytical finding for Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (DHCMT) metabolite 4-chloro-18-nor-17b-hydroxymethyl, 17a methyl-5a-androst-13-en-3a-ol, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) announced. The Moldova-born Romanian won a Gold Medal in the -94kg category at the Bucharest 2018 European Weightlifting Championships and a Bronze medal in the -96kg category at the Ashgabat 2018 World Championships. He does not appear to have competed since then. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has demanded that the IWF act on over 130 samples ‘hidden’ at its Budapest headquarters, InsideTheGames reported last week.

• The Fiji Football Association (FFA) has provisionally suspended seven officials from the Seaqaqa Football Association due to allegations of misuse of funds. An FFA statement outlined that its Ethics Committee would hear the case during November.

• The Cyprus Sports Ethics Committee is investigating two games flagged as suspicious by UEFA, reports The Cyprus Mail. It is understood that ‘unprecedented’ gambling activity was recorded at two friendly games – AEL Limassol’s 8-1 victory over Karmiotissa Polemidion on 18 July; and Apollon Limassol’s 4-1 victory over Karmiotissa Polemidion on 5 August.
