Russia’s triathlon President to lead RusAF

Peter Ivanov (Пётр Иванов) has been elected as the new President of the Russian Athletics Federation (RusAF), in an election that was apparently attended by Oleg Matytsin (Олег Матыцин), Russia’s Minister of Sport. After a ten year political career including being Deputy Chairman of the Moscow region, Ivanov was appointed President of the Russian Triathlon Federation (FTR) in 2016.

Ksenia Shoigu will replace Ivanov as head of Russia’s triathlon federation…

Ivanov is still listed as President of the Russian Triathlon Federation via a link on its official site, and remains listed as one of the candidates for the FTR Presidium. However he will be replaced as President by sole candidate Ksenia Shoigu (Ксения Шойгу) at a 5 December election.

She is the daughter of Sergey Shoygu (Серге́й Шойгу́), Russia’s Minister of Defence, and founded Russia’s League of Heroes Obstacle Course Race (OCR). In September his year, the League of Heroes and the OCR Federation of Russia was due to host an OCR World Championship event at the Rosa Khutor resort in Sochi, owned by Vladimir Ponatin (Владимир Потанин), a former business partner of Mikhail Prokhorov (Михаи́л Про́хоров), former President of the Russian Biathlon Union.

RusAF reported that Ivanov gained 56 votes over ten for Mikhail Gusev (Михаила Гусева), and seven for former athlete Irina Privalova (Ирину Привалову), who was later appointed as first Vice President over Gusev. The RusAF Presidium was also elected and includes Svetlana Abramova (Светлана Абрамова), Radion Gataullin (Радион Гатауллин), Gusev, Privalova, Anton Uik (Антон Уйк) and Natalia Shubenkova (Наталья Шубенкова). Vladimir Allakhverdyan (Владимир Аллахвердян) and Vladimir Gubarev (Владимир Губарев) were appointed to the RusAF Control & Auditing Commission.
