RUSADA Managing Director suspended from UCI

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has agreed that Nikita Kamaev (pictured), Managing Director of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) should suspend his role as a member of its Anti-Doping Commission (CAD). “Following the publication of the Independent Commission report and the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) decision to suspend the Russian National Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), it was agreed that Mr. Nikita Kamaev would suspend his involvement with the UCI Anti-Doping Commission until further notice”, a UCI spokesperson told the Sports Integrity Initiative. “The UCI won’t make any further comment at this stage”.

On 19 November, WADA suspended RUSADA over its part in the ‘systemic’ doping in Russia identified by its Independent Commission on 9 November. Kamaev has been removed from a list of members of the UCI CAD on its internet site. Kamaev told the Associated Press that he could not confirm whether or not his suspension is voluntary. Kamaev was appointed after the election of Brian Cookson as President of the UCI in 2013. On 10 November, Kamaev defended RUSADA at a press conference (video below), stating that it had provided answers to all the questions in the Independent Commission report, describing them as “nothing new” and the report as “politicised”.
