A Spanish court has released Andreu Subies, Vice President of the Spanish football association (RFEF), after he was arrested earlier this week, reports El País. Subies was arrested on Tuesday as as part of Operación Soule, an investigation into corruption allegations against former President of the RFEF, Ángel María Villar.
Subies is a former President of the Catalan football federation (FCF), which confirmed that it had been raided by the Guardia Civil on 30 October. It is understood that he and former FCF Vice President Jose Contreras Arjona were arrested due to allegations that FCF money had been illegally diverted. Both have now been released.
RFEF President Luis Rubiales said that the body would offer its “maximum cooperation” with investigators. “My commitment is to absolute transparency and as a lawyer, to the presumption of innocence”, he said in a statement.
