Netherlands NADO: 23 ADRVs from 3,008 tests

The Netherlands national anti-doping agency (Doping Autoriteit) has reported 23 anti-doping rule violations (ADRVs) during 2017, 0.76% of the 3,008 tests it carried out during the year. This represented an increase from the 20 ADRVs reported during 2016, 0.72% of the 2,788 tests conducted during the year.

The total number of tests included 2,408 carried out as part of the country’s National Anti-Doping Programme, plus tests carried out by third parties. Of those 2,408, 2,115 involved urine and 293 involved blood.

A total of 68 adverse analytical findings (AAF) involving 92 abnormalities were recorded, from which 19 ADRVs were recoded, as well as four additional ADRVs that did not involve tests. Three of these involved failure to cooperate and one case involved attempted manipulation.

Of the 92 abnormalities, 61 involved anabolic agents. Interestingly, the number of ADRVs involving stimulants increased from nine during 2016 to 19 last year.

Baseball and powerlifting/bodybuilding each recorded four ADRVs during the 2017 year, the highest number from any particular sport. The Doping Autoriteit recorded a 59% increase in whereabouts failures from the 29 recorded during 2016 to 46 recorded during 2017. However, the number of missed scheduled tests decreased from 93 during 2016 to 42 during 2017.
