Inline speed skater Giulia Lollobrigida has returned an adverse analytical finding (AAF) for Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide, Italy’s anti-doping agency (NADO Italia) announced. Lollobrigida tested positive for the banned diuretics, both of which can be used to treat high blood pressure, at the Italian Road Championships on 21 July. Francesca Lollobrigida, Giulia’s sister and team mate, is a 14 time world champion.
NADO Italia also announced that two cyclists, Umberto Mirra and Antonio Ivan Giglio, had returned AAFs for recombinant Erythropoietin (EPO). Both AAFs were the result of out of competition tests. EPO is a naturally occurring protein that stimulates red blood cell production. Recombinant EPO refers to exogenous EPO – i.e. external EPO that has been ingested into an athlete’s physiology.
