The International Luge Federation (FIL) has decided against sanctioning two Sochi 2014 silver medalists Tatyana Ivanova and Albert Demchenko, despite both being banned by the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Oswald Commission. On 22 December, the two Russians were found to have committed anti-doping rule violations (ADRVs), were disqualified, and were banned from all future editions of the Olympic Games.
‘The FIL’s Disciplinary Commission was unable to ascertain with full conviction that the two athletes had violated anti-doping regulations at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi’, read an FIL statement. ‘This was the reason cited in a statement by the Disciplinary Commission, which comprises Dr Christian Krähe (GER) as chairman, Dr Andreas Ruetz (AUT), and Dr Jochen Fritzweiler from Germany’.
