The Anti-Doping Committee of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has banned Formula E driver Franck Montagny for two years, after he tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. Montagny was selected for random testing at the Putrajaya ePrix in November 2014, and his 15th place in that race will also be disqualified. Montagny will have 21 days from 27 March to appeal his ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
‘Montagny, who was provisionally suspended, was found to have violated Article 2.1 of the 2014 FIA Anti-Doping Regulations’, read a 27 March Formula E statement. ‘In addition to the two-year sanction, which expires on December 23 2016, Montagny has been disqualified from the final classification of the Putrajaya ePrix’.
Montagny, who raced briefly for the Super Aguri Formula One team in 2006, competes in the FIA-sanctioned electric racing series Formula E for Andretti Autosport. He finished second in the inaugural race of the Formula E Championship in Beijing last September.
