The Fédération Internationale de Ski has annulled the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic results of classical violinist Vanessa Mae, after it found that the results of a qualifying competition held in Krvavec, Slovenia, had been manipulated in order to ensure that Mae qualified. On 18 November, following a 6 November FIS Hearing Panel decision, the FIS Council applied Article 8.4 of the FIS Betting and Other Anti-Corruption Rules to cancel the results of all four giant slalom races that took place on 17-19 January 2014 in Krvavec.
‘The FIS Council took note that Vanessa Vanakorn [Mae], who competed in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, therefore did not qualify and should not have been participating,’ read an 18 November statement. The Council decided that Federica Selva (San Marino) and leva Januskeviciute (Lithuania), who qualified for Sochi 2014 through the Krvavec event, were ‘victims of the manipulated races’. It has submitted its information to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for it to make a decision on their eligibility.
The FIS Hearing Panel found that the results of four ladies giant slalom races were manipulated in order to ensure that Mae qualified for Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, 7-23 February. You can read more about that 6 November decision here.
