Professional Worldwide Controls (PWC) is partnering with the International Testing Agency (ITA) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to bring more reliability and innovation to the doping control process at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games through PWC’s paperless documentation system MODOC. The procedures and information related to every single doping control must be recorded in a document called the Doping Control Form (DCF) for every test that a Doping Control Officer conducts with an athlete.
For decades, DCF forms have been printed out on paper and filled out by hand, which resulted in thousands of DCF copies being shipped around between anti-doping organizations, laboratories, sports bodies or law firms. The ITA, an international organization that manages the Olympic anti-doping program, and the IPC wished for a more secure and environmentally-friendly solution for their work at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.
After partnering with the ITA for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, PWC now also entered a partnership with the IPC for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. MODOC is a system that has already successfully been used by several other anti-doping organizations for the past few years. The solution was developed by PWC in cooperation with the Slovak software manufacturer CANNYPACK.
The ITA and the IPC will engage in the first large-scale use of MODOC during the Tokyo 2020 Games that have been postponed to July and August 2021, both for in-competition and out-of-competition testing. This innovation also aligns with the vision of the Tokyo 2020 Games that aims at adopting the world’s best technologies to operate the event.
“The use of MODOC stands for a complete and error-free documentation of the doping controls,” explains Stefan Meier, one of the founders of CANNYPACK. “In addition, we ensure the protection of the athletes’ data with the most modern security architecture. Invalid samples due to incorrect documentation or mixed-up data will no longer be an issue for organizers and federations.”
Processing more than 40,000 samples per year, MODOC is the world market leader in the paperless documentation of doping controls. The digital platform offers a fully integrated solution for the collaboration of athletes, doping control officers, laboratories and anti-doping organizations. This saves time and ensures comprehensive documentation and communication. MODOC has already been successfully used in a number of major sports events such as the Copa América, the South American football championship in Brazil, the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Qatar and the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
