A regional court in Valencia is to investigate allegations that corruption took place around the award of the 2012 European Grand Prix to a private company with 12 employees and no previous experience, reports the Associated Press. The court called Formula One Group (FOG) CEO, Bernie Ecclestone, and 13 other witnesses following an investigation by the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office that began in December 2014.
The investigation apparently involves Francisco Camps, a former President of the Valencia region, and Jorge Martinez, a shareholder in Valmor Sports, the company that Camps awarded the race to after securing the rights from FOG. Valmor Sports operates the Valencia street circuit, where the 2012 European Grand Prix took place.
