Italy’s national anti-doping organisation (NADO Italia) has confirmed that former professional cyclist Carmine Galletta has been sanctioned with an additional 25 year ban, extending his period of prohibition until 14 January 2065. In 2015, Galletta was sanctioned with a 25 year ban expiring in January 2040, after being implicated in Operation Amateur, which as the name suggests was a criminal investigation into doping in amateur cycling in Italy.
The NADO Italia statement above indicates that Galletta was sanctioned for a breach of Articles 8 and 4.12.3 of Italy’s Norme Sportive Antidoping (click here to download). Article 8 covers persons not registered with or withdrawn from sport; and Article 4.12.3 covers violations of a ban on participation during a period of suspension. No further details were released, however it appears from the statement that Galletta was affiliated with the Italian athletics federation (FIDAL) and football association (FIGC).
NADO Italia also confirmed that rugby union player Federico Daddi has been sanctioned with a six month ban, expiring on 16 January 2019. Daddi was provisionally suspended after testing positive for cannabis after the Arvalia Villa Pamphili vs. Bingo Family Amatori Catania game on 22 April 2018.
NADO Italia also confirmed a one year ban for triathlete Francesca Invernizzi, expiring on 16 June 2019. Invernizzi was provisionally suspended after testing positive for metabolites of clostebol at the Milano Deejay Tri Olympico on 19 May.
NADO Italia also confirmed an eight month ban issued to Darius Earvin Johnson Odom, expiring on 16 March 2019. The American basketball player, who plays for Vanoli Cremona in Italy’s Serie A, was provisionally suspended after testing positive for cannabis after a 6 May match.
