CONCACAF’s Head of Legal Affairs and Member Associations will temporarily oversee Sports Integrity Department

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced today that Dr. Laila Mintas, CONCACAF’s Director of Sports Integrity, has resigned her position, effective December 14, 2015. Dr. Mintas, who has been based in CONCACAF’s office in Cayman Islands, has served in this position since 2013. Marco Leal, who is currently CONCACAF’s Head of Legal Affairs and Member Associations, will assume the Director of Sports Integrity’s responsibilities on an interim basis. Mr. Leal is located at CONCACAF headquarters in Miami, Florida.

CONCACAF is actively conducting an international search for a permanent Director of Sports Integrity. Going forward, the position will be based at CONCACAF headquarters in Miami, and will continue to report directly to CONCACAF’s General Secretary.

In a statement, CONCACAF said: “CONCACAF expresses its appreciation and gratitude for Dr. Mintas’ expertise and commitment over the last two years. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

Dr. Laila Mintas added: “After two years of intensive work building CONCACAF’s Sports Integrity Program, the foundation is laid for the Confederation to successfully continue its fight against match manipulation and other sports integrity issues with zero tolerance. My task is done now and therefore I leave with a good feeling. For me it’s now time to take up new challenges.”
