FINA announces two-year ban for Korea’s Ji-huen Kim

The Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) today announced that the Korean Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel imposed a two-year sanction on backstroke specialist Ji-huen Kim, after a positive test for clenbuterol on 13 May 2014. The two-year suspension is backdated to the date of his positive test.

Ji-huen won a silver medal in the 400m relay at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. Clenbuterol features on the 2014 Prohibited List – in force at the time of the positive test – in S1. Anabolic Agents, category 2, Other Anabolic Agents. It is often used as an ingredient in decongestants, both for human use and animal use, or by farmers to obtain leaner meat. The US and the EU prohibit its use in food-producing animals, as it can be passed through the food chain to humans.
