Artur Fedosseyev has become the fifth Astana Pro Team cyclist to report an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) this year, after a sample collected that the Tour de l’Ain on 16 August 2014 tested positive for anabolic androgenic steroids. The Union Cycliste Internationale said the rider would be suspended ‘until the adjudication of the affair’, and would have the right to request a B sample.
Pro Team Astana have been contacted, but have yet to respond. Fedosseyev’s positive follows Victor Okishev’s AAF, reported on 21 November, also for anabolic androgenic steroids. On 16 October, the UCI asked its Licence Commission to undertake a review of the management and anti-doping policies of the Astana Pro Team, after three of its riders reported doping infractions during a short time period. Astana suspended itself from competition following the rules of the Mouvement Pour Cyclisme Crédible, which it joined in 2013. As such, it will face a fine for breaching UCI rules requiring World Tour teams to participate in all events.
Ilya Davidenok returned an AAF, also for anabolic androgenic steroids, following the Tour de l’Avenir on 28 August. Maxim and Valentin Iglinskiy tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO) during August.
