Sports Integrity Briefs – 5 August 2021

• Ice hockey player Cory Conacher has been sanctioned with a three month ban for failing to obtain a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) to use insulin for medical reasons, Anti-Doping Switzerland has announced. The SC Bern player’s ban expired today.

• Trail runner Anna Infantile has been provisionally suspended after returning an adverse analytical finding (AAF – or ‘positive test’) for betamethasone, Italy’s anti-doping agency (NADO Italia) announced. Infantile returned her AAF at the ‘Trial Madonna di Sito Alto’ on 6 June. The 23km trail run was administered by Italy’s athletics federation (FIDAL).

Athletes Deutschland has criticised the ‘prison-like’ conditions in which athletes that return a positive test for Covid-19 must quarantine during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. It said that athletes report insufficient fresh air in the quarantine hotel; poor food; and insufficient facilities for washing clothes.

• Bodybuilder Giuliano La Colla has been sanctioned with a 14 year ban, Italy’s anti-doping agency (NADO Italia) announced. La Colla was one of two bodybuilders and five personal trainers arrested in February for distributing anabolic steroids and other prohibited substances, reported La Nuova Sardegna. It is understood that this represents his second offence.
