The Swedish football association (SvFF) has provisionally suspended four players due to an ongoing criminal investigation into allegations of match-fixing. The most high profile of these is Paweł Cibicki of Pogoń Szczecin, which leads Poland’s Ekstraklasa (First Division). It is alleged that whilst on loan from Leeds United to IF Elfsborg during the 2018/19 season, Cibicki accepted money to receive a yellow card in a game against Kalmar KK, confirmed the Polish football association (PZPN).

‘The order […] does not cover sports activities in Poland’, confirmed a second PZPN statement. ‘The SvFF is considering asking the FIFA Disciplinary Commission to extend the preventative measure to all football associations. Regardless of this, the PZPN informed FIFA about the situation and depending on FIFA’s decision, will make a decision regarding Cibicki.’ 

The PZPN will need to make a prompt decision. Pogoń Szczecin is scheduled to play Ekstraklasa rivals Piast Gliwice in the quarter finals of the Polish Cup tomorrow. The other players provisionally suspended are Robin Armandt, Goalkeeper with Heleneholms SK; Kristian Legiec, Midfielder at KSF Prespa Birlik; and Vladimir Pasarikovski, who used to play for IFK Trelleborg FK.
