A plea bargain agreed by Carlos Emanuel Miranda alleges that a bribe paid to former International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) President Lamine Diack secured four votes in favour of Rio’s bid to host the Rio 2016 Olympics, reports Flora de Sao Paolo. Miranda is suspected of managing corrupt payments made to former Rio de Janeiro Governor Sérgio Cabral, who was jailed for 14 years in June last year. 

In October last year, a 78-page charge sheet relating to the arrest of Carlos Nuzman, former President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) and former Director Leonardo Gryner, outlined how votes to appoint Rio as the host of the 2016 Olympics were bought. Earlier this month, Brazil’s Federal Public Ministry (MPF) outlined how money launderers based in Uruguay were utilised to manage corrupt payments involving Cabral.
