Greek swimmer Theodora Giareni has been sanctioned with a four-year ban after returning an adverse analytical finding (AAF) for Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMS) on 5 July last year, reports the International Swimming Federation (FINA). Giareni, who competed for Greece in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the London 2012 Olympics, will be banned until 6 July 2020.
Giareni was scheduled to compete in the Rio 2016 Olympics in the 50m freestyle, but was sent home early after failing the July doping test in Athens, reports SwimSwam. The website also reports that Giareni previously failed a test in December 2015, however it was decided that she had not committed an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
