The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has suspended Moldovan weightlifter Adrian Zbirnea and Colombian Jenny Fernanda Alvarez Caicedo after they both returned a positive A sample for anabolic agents. ‘The IWF reports that sample A of Mr. Adrian Zbirnea (MDA) has returned an Adverse Analytical Finding for (S1.1 Anabolic Agents) nandrolone’, read an IWF statement. ‘As a consequence, the athlete is provisionally suspended in view of a potential anti-doping rule violation’.
‘The IWF reports that sample A of Ms. Yenny Fernanda Alvarez Caicedo (COL) has returned an Adverse Analytical Finding for (S1.1 Anabolic Agents) boldenone’, read an IWF statement. As a consequence, the athlete is provisionally suspended in view of a potential anti-doping rule violation’. Both weightlifters have the right to request analysis of their B sample.
Zbirnea took silver at the April 2015 European Weightlifting Championships, Tbilisi, in the -105kg category. Alvarez Caicedo took bronze at the 2014 Almaty World Weightlifting Championships in both the 58kg snatch and clean and jerk category.
