WADA publishes RUSADA’s testing statistics

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

• 2,778 tests collected under RUSADA’s 2017 testing program.
• 35% and 65% split across In- and Out-of-Competition testing respectively.
• 43 sports tested.
• 966 tests collected since RUSADA assumed management of their testing program on 17 July 2017.

To ensure greater transparency of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency’s (RUSADA’s) testing program, in September 2017, the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA’s) Executive Committee and RUSADA agreed that WADA would start reporting RUSADA’s testing statistics on its website. Accordingly, we outline in the table below the number of tests conducted by Sport, In- and Out-of- Competition, from 1 January – 15 September 2017.  Going forward, WADA will publish the same statistics on a monthly basis.

On 18 November 2015, WADA declared RUSADA non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code (Code). Since then, WADA has been working with RUSADA to assist them in rebuilding a credible, and sustainable, anti-doping program. In February 2016, WADA enlisted UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) to manage and coordinate a targeted, intelligence-led testing program on Russian athletes inside and outside of the country -– a mandate that UKAD completed at the end of June 2017.

On 18 May 2017, WADA’s Foundation Board accepted the Agency’s independent Compliance Review Committee’s (CRC) recommendation that WADA would permit RUSADA to plan and coordinate testing using RUSADA’s trained Doping Control Officers (DCO) and doping control service providers, under the supervision of the two WADA-appointed International Experts; and, in collaboration with UKAD. Accordingly RUSADA commenced testing on 17 July 2017.
