Rugby player banned for four years for anti-doping rule violation

Jack McIntosh, a former player at level six club Vale of Lune RUFC in Lancashire, has been banned from all sport for four years after subverting the doping control process following a test on 15 May 2015. Mr McIntosh accepted that he was guilty of the RFU charge having subverted the doping control process by preventing normal procedures from occurring.

This was as a result of withdrawing his consent for the processing of his personal data by UK Anti-Doping and the RFU following a Doping Control test conducted in May 2015. The National Anti-Doping Panel therefore approved the imposition of the four year period of ineligibility for an Anti-Doping Rule Violation under World Rugby Regulation 21.2.5 and the period of ineligibility will expire on 4 June 2019.

“Jack McIntosh was target tested by UK Anti-Doping as part of a commitment to conduct an unpredictable, intelligence-led testing programme,” said RFU Anti-Doping and Illicit Drugs Programme Manager Stephen Watkins. “The integrity of the testing process is fundamental to its success, and Mr McIntosh undermined this system through his later refusal to comply.

“Players should be aware that all doping offences will be treated seriously, irrespective of what level you play at.” To read the full judgement please click here.
