Korean baseball player sanctioned after stanozolol positive

The Korean Baseball Organisation (KBO) has sanctioned Choi Jin-hang of Hanwha Eagles with a 30-game ban, after he tested positive for stanozolol. ‘In May, the KBO conducted tests in accordance with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) procedures on urine samples connected with athletes’, read a 25 June KBO statement. ‘The use of the prohibited substance stanozolol was detected’. The club was fined as part of the sanction.

The KBO said that it had taken samples from 50 players during the tests during May, 49 of which had come back negative. The tests were carried out in partnership with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). It is understood from local reports that Choi had taken a supplement on a friend’s recommendation, but was not aware that it contained a banned supplement.
