Kazakh players union calls for match-fixing investigation

The Association of Professional Football Players of Kazakhstan has written to FIFA to complain about match-fixing, reports EU Reporter. The Football Federation of Kazakhstan (FFK) launched an investigation on 18 August after a video appeared on YouTube, in which FC Aktobe Director Dmitry Vasilyev and FC Ordabasy manager Bakhtiar Baiseitov allegedly discuss match-fixing.

In the video (above), Baiseitov is understood to tell Vasilyev: “No, I told you that I have lost 300 thousand, I just made good to you, so that you could hit the six”. The phrase has been understood to mean that FC Ordabasy may have offered FC Aktobe assistance in reaching the top six in the Kazakhstan Premier League. In the 12-team league, the top six battle for the Championship and entry into UEFA competitions, whilst the bottom six compete to avoid relegation. Vasilyev has since been arrested on suspicion of fraud and the misappropriation of KZT300 million (€816,000).

General Secretary of the The Association of Professional Football Players of Kazakhstan, Aigerim Sabralieva, told EU Reporter that the letter to FIFA expressed a vote of no confidence in FFK President Erlan Kozhagapanov, who was formerly President of FC Astana. Sabralieva said she had left the country over concerns for her personal safety.
